Viorel Matei - more power to his elbow....

Meet Viorel - who has a big happy smile on his face - and has been declared officially fit to ride - by completing the testing challenge of lifting his bike above his head and holding it there for an hour as proved by this photo.....A strange test you may ask - is this a strange "Romanian Roller Ritual" initiation ceremony for non-Irish cyclists and blow-ins from around the globe......
But no, rest assured - Viorel just simply needed to show that he was back to match fitness after he hit the road quite literally by falling off his cycle and breaking his elbow 3 months ago - his first crash during 14 years as a cyclist. We are all delighted that he has passed the 'power to the elbow" test and is deemed fit enough to cycle his way to London
Viorel is a third year dental student at DDUH, who trained originally as a dental technician at Trinity and consequently during his current dental studies is working in Ballsbridge with Dr Edward Cotter who is an expert in prosthodontics for patients who have suffered from mouth cancer. So no-one knows better that Viorel of the challenges faced by the patients who have been disfigured by the surgery for mouth cancer and it is therefore no surprise that he is willing to spend his summer holidays raising money.
So welcome back to the Rollers Viorel......and in the words of the great rock band - ELBOW.....we are delighted that you are no longer the 'SELDOM SEEN KID" on molar roller manouvres and that on 'ONE DAY LIKE THIS" perhaps you should a carry a few spares with you - a couple of wheels, spare olecranon etc
Rest assured that the roller support team have taken out extra insurance just in case you make a habit of throwing yourself around again during the trip and will be ensuring that you don't graze your weenis and are taking good care of "THE BONES OF YOU"

by the way....useful medical fact - did you know that the sticky out bit of the elbow is called the olecranon and the weenis is the technical name for the skin overlying the olecranon....no us neither
